Abstract
Artiklen behandler multipelt exciterede atomare tilstande og deres symmetriegenskaber. Helium anvendes som paradigmatisk eksempel, hvor dobbelt exciterede tilstande i kontinuum udfordrer en-elektron-billedet. Diskussionen afspejler nødvendigheden af fuld many-body beskrivelse og korrekt klassifikation via L, S og paritet. Forfatterne trækker paralleller til molekylære rotationsspektre og diskuterer begrænsninger i geometriske analogier. Artiklen er et flot eksempel på, hvordan symmetribegreber strukturerer kvantemekanikken.
