Abstract
Dette er en artikel, der rammer direkte ned i fysikkens fundament: hvordan vi definerer vores måleenheder. Rasmussen gennemgår den igangværende transformation af SI-systemet fra artefakt-baserede definitioner til en struktur baseret på naturens fundamentale konstanter, såsom Plancks konstant og Boltzmanns konstant. Artiklen giver en elegant indføring i, hvorfor kilogrammet ikke længere bør være bundet til en fysisk cylinder i Paris, men i stedet til kvantemekaniske størrelser. Samtidig tydeliggøres de eksperimentelle udfordringer i at realisere disse definitioner med ekstrem præcision. For fysikere åbner artiklen for en refleksion over, hvordan vores målesystem i sig selv er en fysisk teori om verden. Det er en sjælden mulighed for at få indsigt i metrologiens dybeste lag – der hvor teori, eksperiment og standardisering smelter sammen.
