Abstract
Denne artikel åbner bladet med et elegant indblik i et af de mest centrale begreber i moderne mangelegemefysik: kvasipartikler. Bruun tager udgangspunkt i det fundamentale problem, at kvantemekaniske ligninger for vekselvirkende systemer hurtigt bliver uløselige, og viser, hvordan Landaus kvasipartikelbegreb fungerer som en effektiv teori til at reducere kompleksiteten. Artiklen bevæger sig fra teoretisk konstruktion til eksperimentel realisering, hvor ultrakolde atomare gasser fungerer som kontrollerbare kvantesimulatorer. Særligt fascinerende er beskrivelsen af, hvordan et enkelt urenhedsatom kan “klædes” af omgivelserne og dermed opføre sig som en ny effektiv partikel. Bruun demonstrerer, hvordan moderne eksperimenter nu direkte realiserer tidligere rent teoretiske tankeeksperimenter. Artiklen er et stærkt eksempel på samspillet mellem teori og eksperiment og giver læseren en intuitiv, men stadig stringent forståelse af et ellers abstrakt begreb.
