About the Journal

Focus and scope of the Journal of Pragmatic Constructivism

Journal of Pragmatic Constructivism is open for research contributions that focus on identifying, exploring and solving relevant organisational and societal problems.

While many pragmatic constructivism studies address the integration of the four dimensions – facts, possibilities, values and communication – contributions focusing on only one or some of these dimensions are equally welcome. Research on the establishment and status of facts is of crucial importance. Especially in contexts where communication is shaped by emotive narratives, polarisation, and competing truth claims. Regarding possibilities, we call for careful analyses of the specific circumstances under which possibilities can hold: this means analyses consisting of systematic reflection on the construction and development of factual possibilities that can make desired ambitions achievable. Research on values are also highly welcomed. Questions of value formation, prioritization, and conflict are central to many societal and organizational challenges. For instance, which forms of value are constituted within specific practices, which are marginalised or excluded, and what implications do these dynamics entail for human life? Likewise, work on communication and language games governing the construction of effective functioning practices offer important avenues for research that we look for.

Methodological contributions are warmly welcome. Developing research methods capable of analysing the dynamics of functional and dysfunctional reality constructions in practice remains an important task for the field. Such contributions are certainly within the scope of this journal.

Papers fostering a critical debate, questioning established knowledge through solid argumentation are very welcome. The Journal fundamentally serves as a publication outlet and discussion forum for putting forward such advancements.

Based on the above, the journal is open for all research methods that are reasonable for addressing the research ambition of the submission.

All submissions to the journal will be given full attention and consideration for publication in the journal. Submissions will undergo an initial screening made by (at least) one of the editors. The initial screening may lead to suggestions for changes of the manuscript before the manuscript will go through a peer-review process according to scholarly journal standards. These means ensure that the articles fit in the focus and scope of the journal thus ensuring a fluent review process.

Peer Review Process

The journal of Pragmatic Constructivism operates a double-blind reviewing process. The journal aims to provide authors with the first decision regarding their manuscript within 8 weeks of submission.

Based on the recommendation from the reviewer(s), the editors decide whether the submission should be accepted, rejected, or revised (with minor or major revisions).

The editors ensures that the feedback to authors  is kept in a friendly, constructive, and efficient tone. The aim is to improve manuscript quality rather than just filter submissions. Feedback to authors must be actionable and professional in a form that can assist authors in refining and improving their work.

Submission Requirements

  • An anonymized manuscript
  • A separate title page: the title of the manuscript, the author(s), acknowledgements.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

AI-policy

  • AI can be used in the papers submitted to the journal, but the authors must report what tools and how they have been used. There needs to be extensive transparency in all AI-usage.
  • The following examples of AI-usage are found to be acceptable:
    • Assistance in literature review searches.
    • Grammatical assistance and polishing of paper.
    • Translation of (parts of) the text from one language to another.
  • The paper (or parts of it) must not be produced by AI. Text generation and automatic writing of the paper is prohibited (e.g., expanding into a full paper from an extended abstract or a presentation or a list of notes etc.); and as the result, of course, fully AI-generated papers are not allowed.
  • For conducting reviews or editorial work, any use of AI is forbidden. We deem it important that human intelligence should assess research published in our journal. We also prohibit feeding the AI-models with submitting authors’ original work, because the journal at this point does not hold the intellectual property rights of their scientific work they have sent us.

Altogether, the AI-policy of Journal of Pragmatic Constructivism follows the more specific guidelines set forth by Emerald Publishing: https://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/publish-with-us/ethics-integrity/research-publishing-ethics#ai. We encourage our contributors to read also these detailed guidelines when preparing their papers and submissions.
