Resumé

Baggrund
Planter udgør omkring 80 % af jordens samlede biomasse (Bar-On et al., 2018), og de er helt afgørende for at vores liv kan opretholdes (Fernando, 2012). På trods af deres betydning bliver de dog ofte overset, måske endda helt glemt, i biologiundervisningen (Wandersee & Schussler, 2001). Denne manglende opmærksomhed på planterne fik i 1998 underviserne Wandersee og Schussler til at introducere og definere begrebet “planteblindhed” (1999, 2001). Det defineres som:
• En manglende evne til at se eller bemærke planterne i ens omgivelser
• En manglende evne til at erkende planternes betydning i biosfæren og i menneskelige anliggender
• En manglende evne til at værdsætte de æstetiske og unikke biologiske træk ved de livsformer der tilhører planteriget
• Den misforståede antropocentriske rangering af planter som underlegne i forhold til dyr og dermed at man gør dem til noget ligegyldigt som man ikke tager hensyn til.
