Abstract

X-Ray analysis

All lur fragments form Ulvkær have been examined by X-ray. The radiographs show the decomposition of the metal and remains of chaplets in the tube wall.

It can also be observed how the tubes are joined together by means of different kinds of sleeves. The sleeves resemble those of the Brudevælte lurs. The Ulvkær lurs have been examined by X-ray flourescence, which gives information about the elements at the surface.

The analyses show the presence of the following elements, given in decreasing order - Cu, Sn, Fe, Pb, As, Ag, Sb. The lurs from Ulvkær constitute an important reference material because of the well documented excavation and conservation history.
