This article explores children’s and young people’s evasions, refusals, and circumventions of research methods as forms of resistance, and reflects on how such resistance itself generates knowledge about the very practices the methods were designed to investigate. Drawing on fieldwork from a project on pedagogues’ work with children’s and young people’s media practices in leisure and youth clubs (grades 4–9), the article examines methodological challenges encountered with the use of ‘digital logbooks’ (Sauzet et al., 2024). Rather than treating these challenges as mere obstacles, the article reads them as productive disruptions that reveal the unruly and unpredictable ways in which research methods intervene in the becoming of the world. In doing so, the article contributes to methodological debates by showing how resistance and “trouble” in the field can themselves be understood as knowledge-making practices.
