Abstract

In the spring of 2024, as part of my PhD project, I followed an 8th-grade class during their visit to the Skovgaard Museet in Viborg. My focus was on the experiences the students had when encountering the works of P.C. Skovgaard. Subsequently, I engaged in group dialogues with several of the students, incorporating an arts-based research method. This method involved artistic drawing frames featuring unusual eyes and mouths, which served as the starting point for the students' self-portraits. The intention was that, through drawing, the students could revisit the artworks and, in doing so, experience and engage with them ‘from within.’ This article presents the artistic drawing frame and the rationale for using it in research. Furthermore, it illustrates how the students’ drawings can be included in analysis and interpretation, and how, inspired by Hannah Arendt, the artistic drawing frames can be understood as a means of creating ‘new beginnings’.
