Abstract

While not unknown, attested genocidal exterminations of entire polis populations are a comparatively rare phenomenon in ancient Greek history. One instance that crops up with some regularity – including in the Copenhagen Polis Centre’s Inventory – is that of Sybaris, defeated by Kroton in 510 BC. This article assesses the available source material with a view to determining whether it belongs on the list.
