In the Name of Zeus?
A Brief Historical Essay on the Absence of Holy War in Classical Greek Antiquity
Resumé
It is well known that the ancient Greeks did not fight ‘holy wars’ against other Greeks or other peoples, and this is often stated as a simple fact. This essay both provides the evidence needed to show that ‘holy wars’ are indeed virtually absent from ancient Greek history and discusses why this was so.
