Abstract

The article deals with the specific poetics and position of Johannes L. Madsen (1942-2000) within the avant-garde scene and the literary institution in Denmark during the late 1960-ies. Madsen’s œuvre – roughly 20 collections of poetry, stories, plays, books for children 1965-1975 – remains a problematic and interesting one, with its unique blend of experimental, systematic linguistic efforts and more visionary, ”orphic” impulses and traits. Some influences, from Swedish modernism and contemporary German poets, are suggested – and a variety of the poet’s techniques and attitudes are presented.
