Abstract
Hvad sker der, når fysik og ren matematik smelter sammen – og skaber ny viden i begge felter? Jakob E. Andersen åbner døren til en fascinerende verden, hvor kvantefeltteori og topologi mødes i et frugtbart og overraskende samarbejde. Artiklen guider os ind i den topologiske kvantefeltteori – en disciplin født ud af fysikkens behov, men som har givet matematikken helt nye begreber og værktøjer. Vi hører om invarians, Hilbertrum, og hvordan idéer fra partikelverdenen kan oplyse abstrakte rum. En elegant og tankevækkende artikel, der viser, hvordan ægte tværfaglighed ser ud i praksis – og hvorfor det netop er i krydsfeltet, de største opdagelser opstår.
