Abstract

Traditionelt er partikelteorier og strengteorier blevet opfattet som konkurrerende teorier. Ny forskning har imidlertid vist, at simple kvantemekaniske systemer, kaldet spinkæder, kan udgøre bindeledet mellem de to typer af teorier. Som konsekvens heraf må vi nu forstå partikel- og strengteorier som komplementære, sameksisterende teorier.
