Resumé

David Field giver en ambitiøs og dybtgående introduktion til astrobiologiens centrale spørgsmål: livets opståen og dets mulige kosmiske udbredelse. Artiklen forbinder Big Bang-nukleosyntese, stjerners elementproduktion og interstellar kemi med planetdannelse og præbiotiske molekyler. Tungere grundstoffers dannelse i supernovaer sættes i relation til livets kemiske byggesten. Diskussionen spænder fra molekylskyer og protoplanetariske skiver til exoplaneter og fremtidige rummissioner som GAIA og KEPLER. Artiklen er teoretisk ambitiøs og kræver naturvidenskabelig ballast, men giver til gengæld et sammenhængende kosmisk perspektiv på livets mulighedsbetingelser.
