Abstract

In this article, we will provide an introduction to some of the most essential features of the standard model of cosmology - the Big Bang theory. The theory actually only describes the geometry and dynamics of the Universe, but together with quantum physics, the structures of matter can be explained on many scales. However, to make everything fit, one must include a hypothetical expansion in the early universe called inflation. The Big Bang theory cannot, however, explain the beginning itself.
