Author Guidelines
Articles submitted for publication and all editorial inquiries should be addressed to the editors Tobias Dias and Maja Bak Herrie: idetd@cc.au.dk and mbh@cc.au.dk.
We kindly ask all authors to follow these basic guidelines when preparing your manuscript for submission:
Submission
Manuscripts should be submitted as Microsoft Word files by e-mail attachment (or in a comparable open format, such as .rtf). Please include on a separate cover sheet an abstract of a maximum of 150 words and a short biographical note on the author.
Article length
The Nordic Journal of Aesthetics prefers to publish articles that do not exceed 7500 words (not including abstract and references), though in certain cases exceptions may be made. Book reviews should not normally exceed 5000 words and review essays 7500 words.
Formatting
Please keep manuscript formatting simple. Authors should use standard typefaces (such as Times New Roman) set no smaller than 12pt and double-spaced (including quotations and notes). Please do not use special alignment or spacing. Please use endnotes rather than footnotes. All quotations from a language other than English must be translated. The original quotation can be included in the endnotes.
Style and citation guidelines
Manuscripts should be written according to the specifications of The Chicago Manual of Style 18th edition. Please note that the journal uses “Notes” exclusively and not author–date citations. Nor is a Bibliography provided at the end of the document. We kindly ask authors to follow the guidelines described here: www.chicagomanualofstyle.org.
This includes, among other things, the correct use of hyphens and dashes, which differ in both form and function (e.g., hyphens, “-”, linking closely related words (like toll-free or tie-in), en dashes, “–” indicating ranges (like 147–48 or May–September), and em dashes, “—” setting off clauses). Likewise, it includes correct punctuation placement in relation to quotation marks. For example, commas and periods usually fall inside closing quotation marks (“like this,” rather than “like this”,) while other punctuation marks (such as semicolons, colons, question marks, exclamation points, and dashes) fall either inside or outside depending on whether they belong to the quoted matter or the surrounding sentence.
Blind review
All submissions are subjected to double-blind review. Please remove any indication of the authors’ identities from your submission. This includes names listed in document headers, on the attached cover sheet, in the filename, or in file metadata. After removing any identifying details from the document text and properties, please remember to re-save your file using only the title of your submission as the filename.
It is the responsibility of the author to secure permission to reproduce all illustrations. Documentation of permission should be attached to the submission.
GUEST EDITIONS
The Nordic Journal of Aesthetics regularly publishes issues compiled by guest-editors, e.g., in connection with a conference. Potential guest-editors should make an initial proposal to the editors including a title, detailed thematic outline, and suggested contributors.
