This paper examines the emergence and management of taboos in the Danish podcast Hjerteflimmer for voksne. Through a conversation analytic approach, it describes how participants display an orientation toward the topic of conversation as taboo. Based on three podcast sequences, the study focuses on when and how something is verbalized as taboo. The analyses show that the problem teller generally pre-announces their telling as taboo. However, co-participants may also verbalize other participants’ turns at talk as taboo. In closing, the results from the analyses will be discussed in comparison with previous conversation analytic studies of troubles-telling in naturally occurring interaction.
