Abstract

Translators’ occupational status has received very little attention as a research topic in its own right. However, when we go through the translation literature, we frequently come across references to translation as a low-status profession.

Helle V. Dam, Aarhus School of Business, University of Aarhus, Denmark

Helle V. Dam, PhD, is currently Head of the Department of Language and Business Communication at the Aarhus School of Business, University of Aarhus, Denmark. So far, her research has mainly focused on interpreting, but more recently she has extended her research interests to also include written translation and, in particular, translators as a social and professional group.

Karen Korning Zethsen,, Aarhus School of Business, University of Aarhus, Denmark

Karen Korning Zethsen, PhD, is Professor and Head of the Research Group for Translation and Interpreting at the Aarhus School of Business, University of Aarhus, Denmark. Her primary research interests include translation studies, expert-lay communication and lexical semantics.
