Resumé

Is there room for sport in DGI’s ideology?

This article is based on a cultural analysis, which has focused heavily on communal public events in DGI, where the tension between the conscious and unconscious cultural life of the organization has been a central problem area. The qualitative cultural analysis is based on interpretation of interviews with active sports practitioners and voluntary association leaders/instructors in selected types of activity in DGI, on observation of sporting events and on a broad range of literary source material.
