Abstract

The article is about the Danish war and film photographer Asbjørn Bech who traveled to Estonia in 1919 to film and photograph the Estonian War of Independence. Asbjørn Bech was the first war photographer in Denmark documenting and portraying war on film and thus a Danish pioneer in war documentation. The article0focuses on Bech during his work in Estonia in 1919 and uses Bech’s photographs and experiences as a prism to convey a more general impression of the war conditions during the Estonian War of Independence. Based on Bech’s work, the article also discusses the objectivity of war reporters and assesses the importance of Bech’s war documentation for posterity.
