This article presents an analysis of the New York Times
covering of Brazilian second round presidential elections in
2006. In this way, 23 news story of the period are considered
and studied based on Journalism Studies and Discourse
Analysis. It tries to identify how the representations regarding
the candidates are constructed, taking into consideration the
news structure and the lexical items, contextualized by the
ideological action. As a result, it is possible to identify a
construction unfavourable to the candidate Lula and an
attribution of positive values to the opposition candidate
Alckmin, indicating a positioning, though implicit, of the
vehicle.
