Sympoliteuomenoi in Boeotia: Akraiphia and Its Isoteleis Metics at the Beginning of the Third Century BC (About SEG 67.253)
Abstract
A decree from Akraiphia in Boeotia, published in 2017 by Yannis Kalliontzis, grants isoteleia to city residents, called πεδάϝοικοι, for their active participation in a battle probably fought in 291 BC against the Macedonian king Demetrios Poliorcetes. The privilege granted brings these metics very close to citizen status, to the point that they are included in the category of sympoliteuomenoi, a term rightly restored by the editor at the beginning of the text. We can therefore see the contours of a large community, a particular form of sympoliteia, which encompasses these isoteleis, while distinguishing them from the rest of the politai.
