Ligesom resten af Europa i det 19. århundrede oplevede danske håndværkere en øget systematisering og mekanisering af deres håndværk i løbet af århundredet. Skrædderhåndværket var ikke uberørt af denne udvikling, og i 1879 blev det første videnskabelige tilskæringssystem ifølge forfatteren udgivet på dansk; Nyeste Skole i Tilskærekunst af B. A. Hutters. Dette værk undersøges i sin kontekst, både som en skræddertekst og i sin relation til dominerende epistemiske dyder i datidens videnskabelige repræsentation, og viser, hvordan ideer om mekanisk objektivitet former Hutters præsentation af og begrundelse for værdien af hans system.

Hutters system

Like the rest of Europe in the 19th century, Danish craftsmen saw an increased systematization and mechanisation of their craft throughout the century. The craft of tailoring was not untouched by this development, and in 1879, according to its author, the first scientific cutting system was published in Danish; Nyeste Skole i Tilskærekunst by B. A. Hutters. This work is examined within its context, both as a tailoring text and in its relation to dominant epistemic virtues in scientific representation of the time, showing how ideas of mechanical objectivity shape Hutters presentation of and justification of the value of his system.
