Call for abstracts for Privacy Studies Journal 2026 and 2027 volumes

Are you working on a project with a privacy perspective? Or are you curious to see what applying a privacy studies lens to your research might reveal? We invite article abstracts and proposals for special issues on privacy in the past, the present, or the future for the Privacy Studies Journal volumes 5 (2026) and 6 (2027).

The Privacy Studies Journal is dedicated to the study of privacy as an act of boundary drawing and the many ways in which this act influences political, social, and individual life. For the upcoming volumes, we are especially interested in different cultural understandings of privacy, privacy in colonial encounters, and privacy as a privilege.

The journal is interdisciplinary. We thus encourage projects that breach the boundaries of disciplinary fields, but also welcome field-specific submissions (see About the Journal for more information on the Privacy Studies Journal mandate).

We publish on a rolling basis, and welcome abstracts for articles as well as ideas for special issues. Please note that if you decide to submit a special issue for the journal, we expect you to have the resources to conduct the editorial process.

To be considered for the Privacy Studies Journal volumes 5 and 6, please submit your abstract no later than 1 March 2026, 11.59 pm CET for vol. 5 or 1 October 2026, 11.59 pm CEST for vol. 6.

Abstracts should be no more than 200 words describing the content of the proposed paper/issue and demonstrating how it addresses privacy by using this submission form. After an initial review, selected authors will be invited to submit a full contribution that will then go through double-blind peer-review.

NB: all articles will go through double-blind peer review so having your abstract accepted does not guarantee publication of your article.

If you would like to propose a special issue, please submit a bundle of abstracts and a description of the special issue in one combined file.

With the submission of your abstract, please include the following information:

  • Title of the proposed article
  • Name and e-mail address of corresponding author
  • Genre of your submission (research articles, review article, position paper, book review, special issue)
  • Indicate which volume you would prefer to publish in

Please contact assistant editor, Emma Klakkemma.klakk@teol.ku.dk (cc editor Mette Birkedal Bruun: mbb@teol.ku.dk) if you have any questions about the call, the journal, or its scope.

Next to these shepherded contributions, Privacy Studies Journal still invites full manuscripts and proposals for special issues on a rolling basis.
