Problemer og erfaringer i forbindelse med udgivelsen af Niels W. Gades værker
Abstract
Problems and lessons of the publication of the works of Niels W. Gade
The article takes stock of the work of editing the collected works of Niels W. Gade after the publication of the first three volumes. By and large, the editing of Gade’s oeuvre is relatively uncomplicated, but in two respects the work is more intricate: these are the completion of the articulation marking, which is sometimes rather cursory, and the determination of whether to use diminuendo or marcato markings, where the boundaries are fluid in Gade’s originals. The article features a detailed review of the principles used to solve these two problems. Finally, it shows how there need be no conflict between a practical and a scholarly edition of music of the 19th and 20th centuries – on the contrary, it is natural to combine the two approaches in one and the same edition.
