Abstract

Ideas and concepts of sustainability are becoming increasingly prevalent in the Danish education sector. This calls for an accessible theoretical framework that presents and discusses different international research perspectives to a broad audience of education professionals. The framework should support students and professionals in starting to engage with matters of sustainability in education. To this end, this article presents four theoretical points of entry into questions about sustainability and education. We distinguish between points of entry related to learning, pedagogy, didactics, and organization and institution. The article is an academic essay and includes a selection of state-of-the-art research positions. With this framework, we hope to encourage structured discussions and considerations across the Danish education sector about how to think about and enact sustainability and education in relation.
