Massedigitalisering som arkiv for arbejderhistorie: Potentialer og udfordringer
DOI:
https://doi.org/10.7146/ah.y2025i2.162034Abstract
The article explores how mass-digitised searchable sources can support citizen-engaged dissemination, offering a way to address the lack of archival material about previously overlooked pioneering women in labour history. It draws on the Wikipedia edit-a-thons held at the Workers Museum in connection with the exhibition Kvindeliv, which addressed the biases shaping both historical narratives, labour archives and digital platforms like Wikipedia. Experiences from these events show that access to sources is crucial for sustaining contributions about women on Wikipedia. Digitised and OCR-processed materials, such as older works of biographical and local history as well as contemporary newspapers, hold significant potential for expanding the narrative of women in the labour movement. At the same time, the experiences demonstrate that limited access to such sources, often attributed to copyright restrictions, continues to hinder a more diverse and representative dissemination of labour history.
