In 1971-75 the role and organisation of the Workers economic Council was the put under intense debate within the bread labour Movement as key actors within the broader movement fought for access to the services the economic Councils could provide. e debate stemmed from the passive role the organisation had had during the period where byrge Quist served as head clerk. This was further fuelled by the increasing tendency of the trade unions to hire their own private economists rendering the economic Councils services less important. the crisis was solved by a fusion of the economic Councils offices with another organization within the labour Movement which solved fiscal issues. The conflict is an example of how the particular positioning of the economic Council can serve to illustrate many of the internal divisions and discussions within the movement. Although the ideal was for the movement to work towards one common goal, the organizations each had their own interests for which they fought fiercely.
