Margaret Morganroth Gullette, Brandeis University

Margaret Morganroth Gullette is the author of the prize-winning Age-wise: Fighting the New Ageism in America, (2011; paperback, 2013; German translation, 2015) and of Aged by Culture (2004). She is a Resident Scholar at the Women’s Studies Research Center at Brandeis University. A shorter version of this essay appeared in The Guardian, 28 February 2013; a longer version will appear in her next book, How Not to Shoot Old People.
