The team from Age, Culture, Humanities is so pleased to release the special issue “Investigating Life Cycles,” co-edited by Andrea von Hülsen-Esch and Laura Cayrol Bernado, with two new articles and an introduction. The new publications in this special issue focus on age and aging in the medieval and early modern periods.

  • Svetlana Luchitskaya’s article examines medieval perceptions of older age through the treatise Les .IIII. tenz daage dome by the Crusader knight Philippe of Novare.
  • Andrea von Hülsen-Esch’s article investigates the role of diagrammatic thinking in medieval knowledge production and analyzes the work of Francesco da Barberino, who was a jurist, poet, and intellectual in early fourteenth-century Italy.
  • The introduction offers a fascinating overview of the themes and scholarship on the medieval and early modern periods.

The special issue will be complete with two additional articles, which will be published shortly. Stay tuned!
