'Nonsense' orientation of Pintail, Wigeon and Mallard from Nacton, Suffolk

Abstract

The 'nonsense' orientation of Pintail Anas acuta, Wigeon, A. penelope and Mallard A. platyrhnchos caught at Nacton Decoy, Suffolk, was observed in a series of releases. The mean orientations were PintailSSW, Wigeon-SSW, and MallardS. Mallard were also released carrying small bar magnets but their orientation was not disrupted.
