About the Journal
CURIOUS THINGS is a student-based forum that consists of a student-led journal and conference that offers the opportunity for students to publish and present papers professionally. Further, it will provide a platform for networking between both students and researchers across faculties and institutes.
The focus of the journal is material culture studies in a broad sense and is as such not limited to one specific period, region, or discipline. Material culture studies should be understood as the study of objects in the world and their relationship to humans as well as to other objects - be it the way the sun illuminates the stained glass of a church or how kicking a ball creates social interactions. The objects discussed can be either human-made, natural or otherwise altered, as long as they tell us about the relationship between people and their things, but also the interrelations between objects.
The Journal was first created by a group of students from Archaeology at the SAXO-Institute (UCPH), but that does not mean that the focus is entirely archaeological. We hope that by sharing methodologies from different disciplines, we can create new understandings of materiality.
As we are a small journal and Copenhagen-based, we only accept submissions from students of the University of Copenhagen, as long as material culture studies are incorporated.
The Journal is open-access and articles are peer-reviewed, though it is also possible to submit non-peer-reviewed articles, such as photo essays or book reviews.
We will publish papers in an ongoing online issue, as soon as they have been reviewed. We strive to publish papers at least two months after we have received them, but this may differ depending on the type of paper and length.
The editorial group consists of students and former students of UCPH. We strive to have as diverse a group of people as possible and to include as many perspectives as possible. Besides the editorial group, we also have a senior advisory board consisting of people with academic experience, to ensure that CURIOUS THINGS can keep a high level of academic integrity.
