Through this the specific ideological position of the conservative right is characterized. Hitherto this has not been done, though the position was the most important opposition to the narrative of conservative modernization. Through an approach informed by Begriffsgeschichte the complex relation between the concepts of democracy and parliamentarianism is shown, as well as the significance of the pejorative concept of ‘party’ for the attitude towards parliamentarianism.

The concrete proposals of the conservative right for the abolishment of parliamentarianism don’t entail a dictatorship, but reflect a fear of the mass, which they try to deal with by constitutional means. The concept of dictatorship on the conservative rights points to the defence of nomos within the position and the wish to maintain the nomic function of positive law. This again stresses the dependence of the critique of parliamentarianism on a negative conceptualization of politics as such and the fear of the power of the system rather than of its inability to act.
ER -
