Børn med en Autisme Spektrum Forstyrrelse

Der er forskningsmæssig evidens for, at musikterapi med børn med en autisme spektrum forstyrrelse (asF) har en signifikant effekt. Cochrane reviews påviser, at musikterapi fremmer verbal og navnlig nonverbal kommunikation hos børn med asF. En RCT-undersøgelse viser endvidere en signifikant effekt af musikterapi i forhold til udvikling af fælles opmærksomhedsfokus hos 3-6årige børn med asF. Sammenholdt med kontrolgruppen var der i musikterapien markant flere og længere situationer med glæde og følelsesmæssig synkronisitet mellem barn og musikterapeut, og børnene tog flere spontane initiativer til at deltage i samspillet.
I musikterapi engageres børn med asF i et musikalsk samspil, der fremmer imitation, tur-tagning, affektdeling og fælles opmærksomhedsfokus. Det er basale sociale kompetencer, der er en forudsætning for sprogtilegnelse. Udover behandling kan musikterapi bidrage til diagnostisk udredning af barnets evne til socialt engagement og nonverbal kommunikation. Musikterapeutisk assessment er specielt velegnet til at skelne børn med en autismeforstyrrelse fra børn med en svær kommunikationsforstyrrelse
