The fourth volume of SCAN D l N AVI AN POLITICAL STU D l ES begins with articles by E. Allardt (Helsinki) and S. Rokkan (Bergen). Allardt discusses lines of demarcation between political science and sociology, and Rokkan advocates a new organizational form of comparative research: data confrontation seminars.

Several articles deal with executive institutions in the different Scandinavian countries. The pattern of coalition formation in Denmark is treated by E. Damgaard (Aarhus), in Finland by K. Törnudd (Tampere), and in Sweden by O. Ruin (Stockholm). In review articles P. Kastari (Helsinki) reports on the functioning of the presidency in Finland and A. Solstad (Oslo) on the functioning of the present coalition government in Norway.

Several articles also deal with policy-making. T. Anton (Ann Arbor) characterizes the Swedish style of policy-making and H. Meijer (Stockholm) investigates the composition and importance of the Swedish royal commissions. The role of experts in policy-making is examined In an article by T. Strand (Oslo).

The election results and trends in election behavior in Denmark during the 1960's are
studied by J. Stehouwer and O. Borre (Aarhus).

The volume contains bibliographical surveys on the social science research within the framework of the Swedish royal commissions, on the massmedia in Norway and on Swedish political science during the postwar period.
