Er den mundtlige afgangsprøve i matematik en gevinst i lotteriet?
Resumé
Der er i øjeblikket stort fokus på prøver i folkeskolen. Det diskuteres blandt andet, om antallet af prøver i folkeskolen skaber stress og mistrivsel blandt unge, mens antallet af obligatoriske prøver er reduceret fra otte til seks, og en ekspertgruppe skal komme med anbefalinger til prøverne, og hvordan det såkaldte ”prøvetryk” kan justeres på lang sigt. Tidligere forskning fra Norge og Danmark peger imidlertid på, at det at gå til eksamen i matematik, fremfor andre fag kan have positive effekter på elevernes videre uddannelsesforløb. I artiklen er effekten af tilfældigt at blive udtrukket til mundtlig matematik fremfor biologi eller geografi til folkeskolens afgangsprøve undersøgt. Der findes positive effekter for middel og lavt præsterende elever, hvilket sammen med den tidligere forskning peger på, at en prøve i matematik i sig selv kan have positive effekter. Resultaterne skal desuden ses i lyset af de faldende PISA-resultater i matematik og de pauvre TIMMS-resultater for piger. Det kan derfor overvejes at gøre prøver obligatoriske – særligt i visse fag som matematik.
