Typically, these models function as flow charts showing the transformation of a manuscript to a book within a print culture. The question is, however, if this approach is still suitable for analysing and understanding current changes within the book world. The aim of this article is to step behind the institutional flow charts by examining two distinct phenomena emerged as result of digitization and liberalisation of the Danish book market, NewPub and Mofibo, by means of Johan Svedjedal’s analysis of functions in combination with core concepts in Raymond Williams’ cultural theory. In addition, the concepts of mediation and mediatization are discussed. The main conclusions are that the circuit model reproduces the dominant culture and its omissions, especially communication, while analysis of functions coupled with Williams' concepts is well suited for analysing changes within the book world and, in addition, qualifies the difference between mediation and mediatization. Mofibo may be seen as a new institution within the dominant culture, while NewPub rather is an alternative, emergent formation.</p> Lisbeth Worsøe-Schmidt ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-05-01 2018-05-01 7 1 2 17 Kulturformidlingens transformation - folkebibliotekernes formidling i en digital tid <p class="Abstracttext">The aim of this article is to investigate how the digital conversion that currently takes place in public libraries in Denmark, affects the perception of those cultural dissemination activities that result from the work with documents. My starting point is that the digital conversion means an increase in digital documents and that the characteristics of these documents differ so significantly from analog documents that it potentially means changes in both the practical handling and the conceptual universe associated with the designation, identification, and definition of practice. The study is conducted as a literature survey, where Johan Fjord Jensen (1988), Dag Solhjell (2001) and Jens Gudiksen (2005) constitute the theoretical framework and where eight public libraries’ digital strategies from region Midtjylland are analyzed on the basis of a heuristic approach to the discourse concept. The conclusion is that the eight digital strategies do not explicitly refer to concepts that traditionally denote the cultural activities of the public library (e.g. 'enlightenment' and 'cultural activity') but that these concepts are thematized and understood in new and more transmissive terms such as 'accessibility' 'usage frequency' and as 'need', 'consumption' and 'demand'. This happens because the eight strategies consider technology and the use of technology superior to content, which makes the strategies more part of the public libraries' legitimization work and less a part of the facilitation of people’s common actions in late modernity.</p> Bo Skøtt ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-05-01 2018-05-01 7 1 18 32 Digital dannelse for ældre Undervisning af ældre i it efter Digitaliseringsstrategien <p class="Abstracttext">This article presents the result of observational studies and interviews conducted of two types of it-education aimed at the elderly. The purpose is to illuminate how the volunteers at these learning facilities approach the needs and wants that older adults may have following the Digitization Strategy of 2014. The approach is mainly based on participant observations and interviews. The major finding of this study is that the focus of the volunteers extends far beyond the instrumental demands put on older adults by the Digitization Strategy. The focus is instead on a long line of other skills, and the volunteers can be said to guide their users towards a type of digital bildung (da: “digital dannelse”). In this digital bildung, as opposed to the implicit demands of national strategies and much previous research, the priority is on a self-guided and interest-focused approach to the medium of the computer.
