Kemp har i denne bog samlet en række af sine tidligere offentliggjorte artikler og føj et nogle ikke tidligere offentliggjorte til. Bidragene er samlet i tre hovedafsnit om henholdsvis »International trade and the distribution of income«, »The gains from international trade and investment« og »International trade under conditions of uncertainty«. Et gennemgående tema i artiklerne er ønsket om at undersøge konsekvenserne af at ophæve de restriktive forudsætninger i traditionel udenrigshandelsanalyse, især Heckscher-Ohlin modellen.
