After a brief review of the fact-checking genre's development, the journalistic objectivity norm is introduced in order to discuss how it grounds the fact-checking genre. After this, proposals are made for how, based on rhetorical argumentation theory, the objectivity norm can be reinterpreted, which includes moving from considering facts as fixed, objective truths that can be documented, to instead mainly understanding facts as domain-dependent probabilities that actors try to achieve support for through practical argumentation. In conclusion, the rhetorical view of facts is operationalized in relation to the working method, product and reception of the fact-checking genre.</p> ER -
