Resumé

King Harald of Denmark’s death at the hands of rebels led by his own son Svend c. 986 has spurred several legends. An analysis of the distribution and texts of rune stones on the island Funen, along with other archaeological and historical sources, makes it probable that the networks surrounding and stemming from the powerful lady Ragnhild were instrumental in bringing about the king’s demise.
